Lawrence Brownlee's new album Rising, is now available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and Warner Classics/Erato's website.
For the project, Brownlee has commissioned six leading African-American composers to set poetry from the Harlem Renaissance to song. Composers include Damien Sneed, Brandon Spencer, Jasmine Barnes, Joel Thompson, and Shawn E. Okpebholo, with poems by Alice Dunbar Nelson, Claude McKay, Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson, and more.
Brownlee and pianist Kevin J. Miller premiered this program in a 9-city tour throughout the United States in March and April, including Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, Boston’s Celebrity Series, Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, and Washington DC’s Kennedy Center.
